14 Aug – Move over Noisy Miners, Blue-faced Honeyeaters have arrived!, Dr Richard Noske

Dr Richard Noske is a renowned ornithologist. After obtaining a PhD from University of New England, Richard taught biology at Charles Darwin University, Northern Territory for 26 years. He has written several books, chapters for books and articles, but Richard’s passion for tropical birds of Australia and Indonesia is evidenced in the many journal articles he has authored or co-authored. Currently Chief Editor of Sunbird, Richard served as President of Birds Queensland (BQ) from 2012 to 2016 and co-authored the educational website ‘Our Local Birds’. His current research projects include the flowering phenology of nectar-bearing trees.

Richard’s talk will be about the highly intelligent, blue-faced honeyeater, which hadn’t been previously studied, despite its ubiquity and abundance in suburban Brisbane. His obsession with this species began 2 years ago when he discovered a group of six “Blueys” nesting only 100 metres from his home.
