July 24 – Birds & Wildlife of Noosa North Shore, Jo Brown

Jo Brown has been a permanent resident of Teewah Village, Noosa North Shore for 6 years and has been exploring the Cooloola Recreational Area for around 35 years. She has been a wildlife rescuer for many years and had a rehabilitation and rescue facility for injured/sick seabirds, koalas and other wildlife at a family farm in Noosaville. It was a facility where wildlife could be assessed and cared for until transferred to places like Australia Zoo, Sea World or Twinnies.

Now, years later, Jo is based in Teewah and a volunteer with Noosa Wildlife, Teewah Turtle Trackers, Noosa Bushcare and a Rural Firefighter. She picks up any injured wildlife reported or found along Teewah Beach then transfers to relay rescuers at Tewantin side of the ferry. The turtle team monitor marine turtle nests, and rescue injured and stranded turtles alongside Noosa Council crews.  Jo witnesses many species of seabirds, sea snakes, turtles and other marine life along the local beaches.

Teewah is a close-knit community who cares deeply about the local environment and who document the fauna and flora of the local area on a website called Teewah Naturally.

On July 24th, Jo will be sharing what is special about this unique environment in Teewah and her work as a wildlife rescuer.

Everyone is welcome at the Noosa Parks Association Environment Centre, 

5 Wallace Drive, Noosaville.

Entry is $5 by ‘tap & go’ but Noosa Parks Association current members are free.
