Climate Crisis with Professor Ian Lowe
13 November 2020 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am
$5
Science has been warning for decades that human activity is changing the global climate. We are already seeing very significant consequences, ranging from massive coral bleaching to catastrophic fires and flood events. These changes are a result of an increase in average global temperatures of just over one degree. It will take concerted action to keep the projected increase below two degrees. As the UN was warned last month, global emissions of greenhouse gases need to decline by 45 per cent by 2030 and continue steeply down after. While our national government continues its strategy of masterly inaction, technological improvements have produced a dramatic change in the electricity supply industry.
“It is now possible to envisage Australia playing a responsible role in the global response to climate change.” Emeritus Professor Ian Lowe will describe a possible path to the necessary low-carbon future. It envisages a future that will be radically different from the present.
