As noted on the Our History page, Noosa Parks Association began in 1962, and one of its first accomplishments was stopping the local council from building a road around Noosa Headland to facilitate development. NPA successfully lobbied over many years to have the Noosa National Park expanded, both on the headland and then southwards to Coolum. Today, the headland section of Noosa National Park is one of the most visited national parks in Australia and a key economic driver for local tourism.
Since 2009, under an agreement with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, NPA volunteers have been operating the information hut at the entrance to the park – situated at the end of Park Road. This information centre is open every day of the year, providing an important resource for everyone visiting the park. All money from sales of goods at the hut are channelled directly into environmental funds for the purchase of more protected land in the shire. (No NPA member, including the executive committee, have ever been paid for their services.)
