‘Birding in the Zone of Happiness’ with Steve Popple

23 October 2020 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

$5
Sunshine Coast shore bird display

We all know that the Sunshine Coast is a great place to live but do you also know that for birders it is the ultimate “Zone of Happiness”. Since 2015 the Sunshine Coast branch of Birdlife Australia has been running an annual bird watching competition with a difference. This competition has been instrumental in attracting a broad demographic of new participants to the joys of birding in a social online environment. At a time when many community groups are struggling to attract a new generation of members, is the online environment the key to remaining relevant?

Steve Popple has been an avid birder all his life and his presentation will explore the motivation, pitfalls and citizen science benefits of competitive birdwatching and simple ways you can increase your success in finding new birds.
